How many boards?
Measure the room you are insulating. Each board is 600 mm wide; pick the length that suits the room.
Enter the room's length and width to see how many you need.
The 10% waste allowance is our suggestion, not Summit's: it covers cuts at the walls. For a nail-up ceiling, battens go at no more than 700 mm centres, with 3 concealed clips per m² and about 1 litre of Summit XPS adhesive per 30 m². Tell us the profile you want (SMTG, PITG, SBTG or SMST) in your message.

Description
If you’re looking to enhance the thermal performance of your home or commercial building, the 50mm Summit XPS insulation board is your go-to solution. Summit XPS insulation boards offer superior thermal properties, helping you keep your spaces comfortable year-round while saving on energy costs.
What is Summit XPS Insulation Board?
Summit XPS insulation boards are made from extruded polystyrene (XPS), a type of rigid polystyrene renowned for its high compressive strength and excellent thermal insulation properties. With a closed-cell structure, Summit XPS boards provide long-lasting insulation by minimising heat transfer through conduction and convection, keeping internal temperatures stable and improving energy efficiency.
Key Benefits of Summit XPS Boards
- High Compressive Strength: Summit XPS insulation boards are highly durable, ideal for various applications, including under heavy loads such as underfloor installations.
- Moisture Resistance: The closed-cell structure of XPS foam ensures that these boards resist moisture, maintaining their thermal efficiency over time.
- Energy Efficiency: The 50mm board thickness offers exceptional thermal resistance, reducing energy consumption and enhancing comfort inside your building.
- Profiles to Suit All Needs: Summit XPS boards are available in various profiles, including smooth tongue and groove, smooth straight, pine tongue and groove, and smooth bevel tongue and groove, giving you flexible options to fit your unique project needs.
Applications of 50mm Summit XPS Boards
Summit XPS insulation boards are highly versatile and can be used in many construction projects to optimise energy efficiency. Here are the main applications of our 50mm XPS boards:
- Nail-Up Ceiling and Between Trusses Insulation: Summit XPS boards can be easily installed between trusses or nailed up to the ceiling, providing a reliable layer of thermal insulation to keep rooms comfortable and energy efficient.
- Over-Truss or Over-Rafter Insulation: Adding insulation over trusses or rafters increases your roof’s thermal efficiency. By using Summit XPS insulation boards in this manner, you can significantly reduce the loss of heat during colder months and limit the gain of heat during the summer.
- Over-Purlin Insulation: Installing Summit XPS boards over purlins provides another effective way to insulate the roof of your building. This approach ensures that the entire roof area is covered, maintaining optimal thermal performance.
- Cavity Wall and Perimeter Wall Insulation: Insulating cavity and perimeter walls with Summit XPS boards helps to stabilize indoor temperatures by preventing heat from escaping through the building’s structure. This contributes to improved energy efficiency and comfort throughout the year.
- Underfloor (Surface Bed) Insulation: Summit XPS boards are ideal for underfloor applications. When installed below the flooring surface, these boards provide insulation that keeps the floor warm and contributes to the overall energy efficiency of the building.
How to Use Summit XPS Boards for Maximum Efficiency
- Thickness Matters: The thickness of the insulation board plays a critical role in its effectiveness. Our 50mm XPS board provides a substantial layer of insulation to ensure your project meets or exceeds thermal efficiency requirements.
- Climate Considerations: Different regions have different climatic needs. The level of insulation required to achieve optimal comfort may vary depending on whether you are in a cold or hot climate. For this reason, it’s essential to determine the right insulation thickness for your region, and our experts can guide you on this.
- Thermal Insulation vs. Sound Insulation: While Summit XPS insulation boards are excellent at providing thermal insulation, it’s important to note that they are not designed to serve as a standalone sound barrier. For effective noise control, we recommend consulting with a specialist in noise reduction systems.
Why Choose 50mm Summit XPS Boards?
Summit XPS insulation boards are bulk insulators designed to prevent heat transfer and consistently maintain internal temperatures. As a result, your building stays warm in winter and cool in summer without relying heavily on HVAC systems. This means lower energy consumption and reduced utility bills. By choosing Summit XPS boards, you are investing in a solution that will perform efficiently year after year, delivering long-term benefits for both your budget and the environment.
Additionally, Summit XPS insulation’s closed-cell structure provides unmatched resistance to moisture, helping your insulation remain effective for the long term without the risk of degradation or mold growth. This durability makes our XPS boards reliable for various construction projects, from residential to commercial applications.
